Jumbo Records – All Time Favourite Jingles (Vinyl 1974) [Rip WAV]: Download High-Quality Audio Files

Along comes Fear Inoculum...finally. 80 something minutes of music that seems to pick up where 2001's ultra psychedelic prog masterpiece Lateralus left off. The new tracks, all around 10 minutes+ in length, are consistent yet daring...usually grounded by low level off tempo dirge progressive rhythms that stretch out far and wide. It's a little more earthy and scientific and not so much psychedelic like Lateralus. The lyrics, which I never delve into, seem to be of a self conscious sociological warning of things, and of course are somewhat about self awareness expansion. There is perhaps only one track in this that i consider filler. The recording and mix by Joe Baressi (no doubt having met the band through their mutual Melvins connections) is exquisite...he really comes into his own; a perfect mix of high resolution and midlevel graininess with at times obscurely treated vocals that are subjective responses to what is being sung about at the time. The sound mix is a combo of hardrock conventions and filmic intellectual progressive space rock punk. It marks a new departure of Baressi and puts him into a whole new league of uber-professional 'out-there' sound engineers. His use of shredding amplification, revamping and pedal effects treatments are sonically tasty, especially when juxtaposed with direct input recording techniques. The singer and lyricist Maynard James Keenan really hits upon some weird trippy melodies, expressionistic and eerie, especially in tracks like "Pneuma". The final track "7empest" hits upon old school adrenal pineal gland stimulating ultra-futuristic primal punk aggression and is another rythmic favourite on the album...it also gives a big nod of affection to their well-known musical inspiration, the classic progressive rock band King Crimson- especially with the 1980s Robert Fripp & Adrian Belew guitar style intro that Adam Jones dials up and draws in, preparing listeners to hear an all out energetic rhythmic shredding metalesque supernova of a number. All in all this album is a drawn out progressive earthy drama journey- rustic, yet with technical timing perfection. It very well makes up for the eon between records and the aformentioned musical novice-like disappointment of its 2006 predecessor. It's a listening "experience" as all Tool records are, making for many many multiple listens so as to always pick up on something new each time, and stamps the band as true solid consciousness-driven artists...painters of sound, with driving pounding beats that open up new frequency paths in the brain and still does the old school raising of hair on the arm coupled with cosmic nervous system chills. Its thinkingpersons' hard rock music at its finest. Indescribable for the most part in fact. Turn on, tune in and think beyond!Oh, and I do suggest also purchasing the high resoltion/hi res fidelity 24 bit/96kHz downloadable version from hdtracks.com , acousticsounds.com or qobuz.com. The sound mastering is like an advanced-designed architectural cinema/movie theater effects far-out soundfield theme park...instruments lurk on ceilings and behind walls at times, expanding the listening environment into one that is alien- advanced in nature. Although you'll find that when playing the 16 bit 44.1khz cd through modern receivers with upscaling and enhancement codecs etc that its a close enough rich listening experience to that of the 24 bit master version. It may even fool some on a listening blind test being told that they're listening to a true 24/96 flac or aiff file..try putting on a "front surround" or some kind of other pseudo surround setting...its a whole new way to experience the songs like it's the first listen. Its a testament to the great uber-high tech production and mixing skills with super-advanced technology we now have at our fingertips, brains and ears these days. Do get this limited edition packaged first edition along with the expanded book/cd coupling....the images subjectively and maybe objectively/intentionally assists the viewernot just the listener, in further interpreting the respective songs much better as it'll yield the development of a vastly more open mind. It'll likely unleash previously unused and undiscovered brain chemicals that'll flood and attach to your dopamine receptors and cerebellum and cause for you, the listener, to voyage to the infinite recesses of the brain where infinite quantum neurons fire and advanced biochemically coated electric ear cochlea receive signals from another galaxy and tap into the ultra exotic electrical current running through guitarist adam Jones's and bassist justin chancellor's biomechanoid phasing effects pedals and amps, with resonating micro porous echoes that echo within the echoes emanating from the futuristic biological drum skins of drummer danny carey. Spaciousness from the beyond. Tool is the modern Stanley Kubrick or early Pink Floyd of current modern music.
